THE
PROJECTS

What are we working on?

Call to Action's project focus on offering support, encouragement and information to improve the quality of life and empower the less fortunate in Cameroon and The Netherlands. Here are our latest projects:

Primary School Nkom Efoufoum

This primary school located in the village of the same name faces enormous difficulties that have a direct impact on children’s education.

210 children are schooled there. However, there is a dire need for school material. There are not enough benches for all the students to sit, not enough textbooks for all, not enough classrooms for all levels and no on-site access to water, forcing students to fetch water 2 kilometres away from the school. The roof of two classrooms has been destroyed by heavy rains and there are no funds available to restore them. Consequently, two classrooms are out of order and children are packed together in mixed levels, preventing proper learning.

CTA Foundation’s impact:

  • Restore the roof of the two classrooms to enable each level to have a dedicated classroom for learning.

  • Provide textbooks and school supplies to enable children to study and do their homework (UN SDG no. 4).

  • Provide sanitary facilities in accordance with standards

  • Provide a water well to enable access to drinking water, the use of toilets on site and better hygiene (UN SDG no. 6).

Project's target:

  • The school: we help teachers carry out their mission properly in a poor rural agricultural area.

  • Students: we give children a better chance to gain a decent education with reasonable learning conditions.

  • Families: we support parents in financial difficulties to provide a better education to their children. The main source of income in the area comes from cocoa plantations which is sold once a year and does not allow families to earn a steady income.

Bilingual Primary School Nkol Tsogo II

In the village of Nkol Tsogo II, there is no school building per se. The students are hosted in an abandoned house in extremely poor condition where former bedrooms were turned into working classrooms without any renovation work being conducted. The house is very exposed to weather conditions: there are no proper walls so classes cannot take place on rainy days. Students pack themselves in a corner of the room to avoid being wet. Very often, the ground is muddy with stagnant water which increases the risk of diseases being spread. There is no real learning opportunity as most children do not have a textbook, but merely have a year-old notebook. The learning material is extremely limited and teachers cannot give homework to students.

CTA Foundation’s impact:

  • Completely build the school with all the necessary facilities to allow proper schooling.

  • Provide textbooks and school supplies to enable children to study and do their homework (UN SDG no. 4).

  • Provide access to a safe source of drinking water and basic sanitation facilities (UN SDG no. 6).

  • Reduce and eventually eliminate the risks of water-borne diseases which are the leading cause of death on the continent (UN SDG no. 3).

Nkol Tsogo Village: Clean water project

There are about 500 people living in the village of Nkol Tsogo. The only source of drinking water requires a 20 minute-walk down a slippery ravine in the middle of a cocoa plantation. This is a long walk, down a dangerous track which is even more challenging once the villager has filled their water container. Old people cannot access it. Children are forced to get up early to fetch water before they go to school. Parents without children often end up drinking rainwater.

Beyond accessibility, there is also a problem of hygiene. When it rains, the water runs off towards it and mixes with the spring water. It turns into a yellowish colour and is unsuitable for consumption. Moreover, the cocoa plantation uses a lot of pesticides which contaminate the source and the containers when the water is being transported along this track. Finally, the water is not being treated which directly expose villagers to water-borne diseases such as cholera, schistosomiasis and other gastrointestinal problems.

CTA Foundation’s impact:

  • Drill a borehole in the village to provide a closer and safer access to drinking water (UN SDG no. 6).

  • Reduce and eventually eliminate the risks of water-borne diseases which are the leading cause of death on the continent (UN SDG no. 3).

Project's target:

  • The village: we allow for community development by building capacities for the village to access safe water consumption. This also allows the development of agriculture and breeding.

  • Children: saving time by fetching water locally, we allow children to focus on their education.

  • Families: we allow families to be healthier by drinking non-contaminated water and using clean basic facilities in the village.
